Government Treasury bills

Treasury bills are zero-coupon bonds issued at a discount and with a maturity ranging from one to 364 days. They are in the form of book-entries, usually with a value date of T+2.

The government issues Treasury bills in euros and in US dollars. It uses currency swaps to exchange the dollar Treasury bills for euros. Within the Treasury bill programme it is also possible to issue Treasury bills denominated in foreign currency.

Treasury bill issues are made in accordance with the T-bill programme. Whenever there is a need to issue T-bills, the government notifies the market participants of the reference price and quantity for sale.
